Fall brings beautiful colors with the changing seasons. There are lots of fun fall things to do right here in Harrisburg!

  1. Attend the fire station’s poultry night just before Thanksgiving.
  2. Go to the Harrisburg High School Homecoming game on September 30.
  3. Go to the Homecoming Parade on September 30.
  4. Attend the Tiger Bowl.
  5. Pick your own fresh apples at the Harvest Festival October 1-2 at the Country Apple Orchard. Harvest of nearly 6,000 apple trees takes place from mid-August through late October. Gaze upon the incredible 500-pound pumpkins at the South Dakota Giant Pumpkin Contest, which also takes place at the Harvest Festival. http://www.countryappleorchard.com/
  6. Bring the whole family or your friends out to enjoy the many activities the Country Apple Orchard has to offer! From wagon rides to homemade apple goodies, there’s something for everyone!
  7. Host a baking party with friends and make apple pie with all your freshly-picked treasures from Country Apple Orchard.
  8. Country Apple Orchard also features a Pumpkin Festival October 8-9 that you won’t want to miss! Pick pumpkins and apples and taste yummy caramel apples and so much more.
  9. Have “stalks” of fun at the Heartland Country Corn Maze, boasting 11 acres, a life-sized maze, and concessions through October 23. http://www.heartlandcountrycornmaze.com/.
  10. Be brave and try out Flashlight Night or the haunted corn maze at the Heartland Country Corn Maze!
  11. Attend the Fall Family Fun Festival October 1-2 and October 8-9 at the brand new Riverview Tree Farm. http://www.riverviewtreefarm.com/
  12. Let the kids pick out their Halloween costume, or better yet – make a DIY costume!
  13. Take the kids trick-or-treating.
  14. Carve a pumpkin with the kids or with your friends!
  15. Bake pumpkin seeds for a salty snack!
  16. Be sure to check out the Heartland Country Corn Maze when it’s haunted!
  17. Observe Native American Day on October 10 with a day off of school!
  18. Go to the firemen’s hotdog feed before the football game.
  19. Check out the many games and practices at the school fields.
  20. Go to a high school play.  
  21. Attend a local church worship.
  22. Take the family to Tiger’s Den for wings, chicken, and pizza!
  23. Help a friend at a benefit function or help a neighbor or elderly person.
  24. Take your Kindergarten through 5th grade son to a Cub Scouts recruitment night – the next one is tonight!
  25. Attend events at the new Meadow Barn at Country Orchards, like the Pints & Peppers Festival on September 24.
  26. Have memorable, creative photos taken in the fall foliage by one of many local photographers.
  27. Visit the Harrisburg Business Expo and Health Fair at the Harrisburg Event Center – usually this takes place on a Saturday in November.
  28. Plan a winter destination getaway with the help of All-Star Travel.
  29. Try your hand at making pumpkin pie.
  30. Host “Friendsgiving” – prepare a Thanksgiving feast for friends.
  31. Hunt down or purchase your Thanksgiving Day turkey!
  32. Observe Thanksgiving with a family feast and lots of thankfulness!
  33. Help carve the Thanksgiving Day turkey.  
  34. Shop locally for Christmas gifts.
  35. Exchange your garden harvest goodies with friends and neighbors, or get together to cook squash and make pumpkin seeds!
  36. Rake leaves and let the kids jump into leave piles!
  37. Get those Christmas lights and trees out of their boxes and start organizing things for the Holidays!
  38. Taste a pumpkin flavored latte or ice cream treat - or try to create your own at home!
